"I am writing to you on behalf of the group of three Australian students who attended your workshop on motor dysfunctions. We scheduled for your workshop thinking that it would be different.

Well, different it was for you added some humor to an excellent dissertation! I imagine your patients just love to perform the Tamara Di Tella Pilates and Tango Pilates courses with you and that the incorporation of music is also fun, though I understand now that it is much more than fun, it is also a scientifically tested test for theories of brain plasticity.

I really congratulate you on your clarity and on the capacity you have to deliver fitness workshops that are interesting and medically oriented as well."

"Congratulations, Tamara, on another great event! As always, your workshop was great, illustrative and full of examples! your dedication and professionalism are always present and your sense of humor makes everything even more fun.

Despite the sense of humor that characterize your presentations, let me tell you that we all recognize all of the hard work that goes into the Tamara Di Tella workshops"

"Thanks for Tamara Di Tella emotive article “The Origins of Tangolates”, my mother and I have owned our Pilates studio and have done very well with it. My mother is an out¬standing instructor, and we're in a good location. My father has Parkinson decease and as of lately the doctors recommend that we perform Pilates exercises to work his limbs and especially his joints which are stiffer and stiffer by the day.

That said, we're working hard to learn how to help him. Tamara Di Tella article on how she started (she donated a rehab ward to a public hospital) is an example of dedication and social concern. Thank you, Tamara, for your good work. You are a model to us."

"I really enjoyed my Tangolates experience, and would recommend doing it 2 to 3 times a week to gain full benefit. I think the Tamara Di Tella Method --Tangolates o Tango Pilates-- is a fusion of Pilates, inspired Tango choreographed movement sequences and fun cardio work. I feel that this revolutionary exercise method could change the face of the Pilates industry throughout North and South America as well as Europe."

Hello! I have recently completed a four-month intensive training course at the Tamara De Tella Training School. I feel that the course has projected me onto the first rungs of a career in teaching Tamara Di Tella Pilates when I return to Europe. It was certainly a challenge for me to do the course in another language but I have really enjoyed my time there. I feel empowered and secure in the knowledge I now have to teach my own classes and to ensure the clients receive the upmost in care whilst taking the class Tango Pilates or Tangolates is an inventive form of dynamic exercise that not only relies on your own balance and coordination but on that of your partner too. Its appeal lies in its novel approach to the exercises, which is both unique and funky. The T- DiTella Tangolates classes will take the United States by storm. For Dance Academies, or Institutes of Dance, ballet or Tango; also for Pilates Studios, and for dance classes in general, The T-DITELLA Tangolates Trainer® Apparatus is ideal for its efficient capacity to teach as well as to learn how to dance or perform Pilates. The T-DITELLA Tangolates Trainer® is considered an excellent tool in both the learning and teaching process of Tango and Pilates.

Hello, Tamara, I have always hated going to gym group exercise was much too demanding!!! Than I found a Tango Studio and began classes there with a friend. I also went and found a dance studio that held a Pilates session. But now, that you bring both into one, I am fascinated!!

I LOVE it. My form is not perfect, but it is improving. The unfortunate thing is the instructor is moving to Buenos Aires and they are doubtful they will find a replacement. Once she is gone, I'll probably join a local gym which is the only place left that offers a Tamara Di Tella Tangolates class here. The good news is: from what I have heard, they are great.

Love.

I am just so curious about your Tangolates, Tamara, I want to die!! I joined Weight Watchers & started eating healthy. But, my problem is that I don’t want to do exercises because I am essentially lazy.

After a few months of not doing anything at all I decided to take some Pilates classes., I added in walking & that soon led to training to jog a 5k (still in progress). I have lost over 30lbs so far. But now I feel that I arrived at a level and can't move from there. You know, I need something exiting to keep me moving and this is your Tangolates, Tamara. So I really would like to try it!!!

When I was suggested take up pilates or yoga, I thought: “Not that!”. I thought I would die of boredom! But now, I really want to start doing Tangolates!!!

OK, Here I am again, Bob. There is recent research which indicates that there are, in our brains, receptor sites for essential fatty acids and antioxidants (think nuts, veggies, and fruits). These receptor sites send signals telling us we are nourished so we know we can stop eating.  We are satisfied.

It appears this may be an essential mechanism in signaling satisfaction of the appetite for food. Where is the Tamara Di Tella Pilates in this equation? Nowhere. Sorry, Tamara, Your Pilates is excellent, but not for losing weight.

Hellen - Chicago

TAMARA DI TELLA PILATES & TANGOLATES TAMARA DI TELLA PILATES & TANGOLATES TAMARA DI

Hello Tamara, my name is Hellen and I am 56 years of age.    Seems to me that we should be as precise as possible in answering questions concerning Pilates because people are confused about it. People expect Pilates to be all and do all for everyone and this is not the case.

There are other factors which enter into the equation.  If we eat more Calories than we burn we gain weight. If we burn more Calories than we eat we lose weight. Its as simple as that and we should not look at Pilates, not even the Tamara’s Pilates as the answer to all our problems.

Calories are burned by movement.

Pilates is slow concentrate movement.

Pilates burns Calories, slowly and in a concentrated manner, no miracles, no great results. Just little by little. If you are urged to lose weight, well then you have to choose another way of exercise.

I don’t want to argue that Pilates is not designed to assist with weight loss. For that matter, neither is cardiovascular exercise (hence its name).

Our questioner above is asking whether he can lose weight via Pilates and also increase strength and flexibility. While he may not lose a lot of weight practicing the Tamara Di Tella Pilates, he will burn Calories practicing it.

As a practical matter there may be more efficient movements in terms of weight loss, but that does not diminish the fact that Pilates is movement which burns Calories.

Bye for now, Hellen.

Hello, my name is Chuck. The Tamara Di Tella Pilates looks great for people like me, the only thing is that I don’t get bored you know, because it’s a bit slow…Like every body else has said on here, it’s great for the mind and body. But for weight loss you will have to work some cardio in there, that’s what I like about your Tangolates, Tamara, because it a bit more, you know, aerobic. If you looking at shedding some weight the cardio pare is important, right? .

Pilates alone will not work for just weight loss. But on the other hand you will get results from working a stronger core, and more flexibility from your adductors of the legs. You will also feel greater rotation threw the upper torso and that is good about classical Pilates, though I think you get the same thing doing Tangolates too… Look for a instructor that has been trained at the Tamara Di Tella Pilates School, I say.

Hello! Tamara!!

Your website is so nice!  Congratulations!!! I lost weight, but I also changed my diet. Many lose some weight, but report they look like they are still fat.

Does Sting really do Tangolates? And what do you call it? Tangolates or Tango Pilates, because I see it in different names, you know…

I play golf, I live in Vancouver. You can't live here without knowing something about it. Yeah, it’s great. Only it rains all the time. You should come to Vancouver, Tamara!!!

"Good morning! Sorry for my English. It is not my mother tongue. I hope you understood what I will try to say. I was a student in your School and I would like to some thoughts with you. Tango plays a very important role in my life because I am very conscious that it helps to heal and improve my figure ( as well as those people who like to dance,  which is my case). I come from Asia and we are very much into dancing. Competitions are very string here as well. No so gyms, for physical exercise has been replaced by dancing here and people are much more into dancing than they are into fitness. In my country there are about three competitions in a year. And there are also more small ones making a total of, say, up to 10 or 15 different competitions.

The latin dance (cha-cha rumba, paso doble, brazilian samba, jive a special kind of rock and roll) and then the standard disciplines they call ball room (waltz, quick step, fox strot, tango, vienese walts). Tango is divided into argentine tango and ball room Tango.

For competitive dancers, the most important thing is posture.  But people are also into Tango because they are conscious about their weight and therefore they dance, to burn calories and lose weight.
Also some people here like Pilates. In fact, many peole are into Pilates. It is a growing fad which will stay because its good.  But Pilates is not nearly as popular as Tango. Normally we hear people that say they tried performing Pilates but they ended up bored because it is slow, and quiet.

We Asians are musically inclined people. We like music. It is a characteristic of these countries. We like music and we like dancing too. So I think Tangolates will play a very important role for  those few people who are into pilates, as well as for all the rest of the people who love music. And about getting bored. When we add the element of music or dancing, it a completely different world.  Pilates is not boring any more!  Now, to be able to dance, especially Tango dancing, you need to strengthen your core or center, and this is precisely what Tangolates does.

Dancers would not necessarily go to a Pilates class because they already have their cores worked out, but they still need to improve their posture but, and this is why they are still more attracted to Tangolates because Tangolates, or Tango Pilates, the Tamara Di Tella Method, offers, in addition, the element of the music, and he coordination between two people; and this dancing oriented people really appreciate.
Now, take those people who are conscious about their health and figure and want to reduce.  These people normally go to the gym and normally do aerobics, hip-hop aerobics; tae-bo; and many others. These people also go to the gym to lift weighs, or other advanced machines to do intensive workout. For some, who can really afford it, t would even go up to surgery.  So there are people who are body conscious and health oriented.  For these people, Pilates is excellent. The problem is that there art very many people like this. They are fewer in my country or in other Asian countries.

If you perform Pilates you will actually be working on your sleeping muscles (stagnant muscles),  muscles that you did not even know exited! Because of the cardio element, people and the routines they will be able to shape their body. In the Asia ladies (especially) are very conscious about the abdominals and that is why they may prefer to go to the gym to perform Pilates.

When you do Pilates you combine workout and proper breathing. But when you perform Tangolates, you are doing the same, but actually adding the aerobic element; so that you are using two systems to shape the body. Plus, the extra bonus of burning calories which Pilates does not have. So for people who go the gym to lose weight, burn calories and shape their bodies Tangolates is the best option. Pilates is great but it is not oriented towards burning calories and losing weight.

Sorry for my English. It is not my mother tongue. I hope you understood what I tried to say.

"Hello, my name is June, and I come from the Philippines. I once tried Pilates here in the Philippines from a friend of mine who happens to be a Pilates’ teacher. It was good and I felt good after a few sessions with him. I liked it because it helped me a lot to improve my posture and work on my muscles some of them I even did not know existed.

It is a big plus for a professional dancer/choreographer like me. But I must admit that I got bored most of the time because of my nature (I am a dancer). See… I want to dance. A few minutes of stretching is good and enough for me to warm me up... After a while I stopped taking Pilates.

Until one day I came across with another friend who told me about the Tamara Di Tella Method called Tangolates. Now this is something!!!!. I’d like to do this Tamara Tango Pilates. To make a long story short, I bought the License, then I went to Buenos Aires, took an intensive course at the Tamara Di Tella School, and now I am very happy to have the best of both worlds…dancing and Pilates!!!

"To me, Tamara Di Tella Apparatus is  revolutionary. It’s a fitness program that's guaranteed to sculpt your body slim. I, for one, had the opportunity to perform the exercises in Buenos Aires and loved every minute of it. When I left the country, believe me, my classes with the T-DITELLA Apparats is what I missed the most. When they asked me if I wanted to write my testimonial I said: “this is the first time that I do it willingly because this was really great!”: I miss you guys!!"

As far as I am concerned, the Tamara Di Tella Method (tango pilates? or Tangolates?),  is much better than my former "diet" program because its entire focus is on exercise, and a fun one too. "I had the opportunity to work with the apparatus in the Studio of Buenos Aires, last year when I was visiting her country as a tourist from Colombia. I loved it!  Both the method and the apparatus are the best body toning programs I’ve seen. The only problem is that I could see that without the apparatus, (DITELLA, I think it’s called), it is very difficult to perform the excercises. Tamara should develop a mat version for those of us who cannot buy the apparatus and take it home with us"

"In my opinion, Tamara Di Tella’s Method is one of the hot new methods that is truly innovative and creative, because its contributions not only add a variation on the same theme,  but consists of very substantial changes (and challenges),  to an already excellent method (pilates) incorporating the cardio element, which is a fundamental variation, to say the least"

"Hello, my name is Annie and I just came back from a course I took in Tamara Di Tella. I just wanted to say that in my country Tamara plays almost legendary role (especially for the Spanish speaking world), in the evolution and teaching of methods, and many Pilate’s teachers—including me—can trace their involvement in the industry to this woman, one of the first to take her School Program Pilates to a public hospital so that students like me could practice (hands-on) with real patients who suffer from severe dysfunctions of the motor system.  I am studying to be a chiropractor and this was a great experience for me!.  For this, I am grateful. I hope you publish my letter."

"Tamara, I would like to comment a bit further on something you posted on your website, which I personally find most interesting. Despite the fact that Tangolates is more fun and despite the fact that it adds the cardio that is missing in traditional Pilates, it seems to me that Tangolates is perhaps the only method that has a truly scientific background. I mean, it started at a university hospital, with real doctors and real patients, right?. Al least, that’s how I understand it.

So, it’s surprising that a “fashion method” can also be a scientific method and one that is built on academic excellence and scientific research.

What a pleasant surprise… don’t you think?"

“When I trained as a Pilates instructor, I was told that Pilates was the end all and be all, encompassing strength flexibility and cardio. Pilates was in fact an excellent way to develop flexibility and strength simultaneously. The Pilates principle of “strength with length” is certainly valid. However, try as I might, I could not buy into the idea of Pilates as aerobic exercise. Additionally, some training organizations believed that the technique should be practiced in the exact way that Joseph Pilates created it in the early 1900s, despite the fact that a century of new research has been performed since then”

“Last summer I traveled to Buenos Aires lo learn some Tango basics. I fell in love with Tango watching many Robert Duvall movies.  Once there and casually strolling along the streets, I ran into a place where some people were practicing this new exercise. I couldn´t hear the music from the outside, but it seemed Tango and that´s what it was! I entered the fancy place and people were working out these exercises based on some Tango choreography and following the exact beat of that music. I immediately asked to take an introductory lesson and once I finished I noticed my work out had been exhaustive. So I decided to learn it and the very next day I started this lovely and intensive course. I loved the gadget they used and the manuals that guided my new exercises. Tangolates™ is an entirely new venue. Tangolates™ is a different, unique and distinctive partner method to be performed on a special apparatus --the T-DiTella™ --  which is portable.

Besides, my course included an intensive hands-on work with patients with severe motor dysfunctions of the neuronal-system, at the Medical School of University of Buenos Aires, the largest Medical School and Hospital of Latin America, where poor patients get attention for free, since the beginning of last century. I really appreciated this additional feature, in the States we haven´t been offered so far a real medical experience, with real patients, real medical doctors, at a real hospital, in a real medical school. Indeed, the TAMARA DI TELLA School of Training is the only one in the world that has donated a Rehabilitation Ward to a Public Hospital; the only one that has medical doctors  (not chiropractors or physiotherapists ) in its staff; the only one that has over two hundred instructors to teach, and the only one where instructors-to-be have to wear white gowns.

Now, I´m back in my home town, Edgartown, Massachussetts, and I´m trying to start my own business with this strange mixture of Tango and Pilates. I´m sure my future clients will love it, just as I did!”
