The Tamara Di Tella Method: History and Origins

Pilates’ routines and movements were held at the Tamara Di Tella Pilates Room in the Hospital of the School of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. To assist patients perform their exercises, each patient faced a monitor who was performing the exercises, and in so doing they formed partner routines. In addition a rhythmical tune -- Tango -- was added, so as to help patients move. Step by step, these new regimen formulated for two people (an instructor and a patient), and accompanied by music, became a new method, one which was more versatile and innovative; one that contributed an aerobic element; one that motivated patients to move to the tune of music with their Pilates instructors. Tango Pilates or Tangolates was thus born.

Today, the Tamara Di Tella Method has become a popular technique in Dance Academies, or Institutes of Dance or Tango. It has also been adopted by Pilates Instructors and Studios. It is excellent for teachers because it helps them teach dance classes in general. With The T-DITELLA® Apparatus monitors teach students perform their first steps.

Strenght, Flexibility and Cardio

Being a partner workout, The Tamara DI Tella Method, Tangolates, also provides for 1) better coordination; 2) more strength; and 3) improved stretching.

1) Coordination: The Tamara Di Tella Method requires more coordination as one exerciser has to coordinate not only his own movements but those of the person working in front of him or her.

2) Strength: Again, there is a general consensus on that two people working together can exert more strength than one. Tango Pilates provides for that too.

3) Stretching: Finally, it is also argued that one person by himself/herself can stretch only so far, while the partner working by his/her side may help his/her partner stretch a bit farther. This is called “assisted stretching”.

4) Music: Finally, the question is: does anybody know of a better motivator of movement than music? The T-DITELLA Tangolates® Apparatus is ideal in its efficient capacity to teach students to learn the basic principles; practice the posture, and take the first steps, before they start. For shy students, (they all are in the beginning), the T-DITELLA® Apparatus is ideal to get rid of the inhibitions of the beginner. Plus, the students can practice with the help of the apparatus first. In this sense, it is ideal for both students and teachers, who benefit from this efficient tool that helps them teach.

For Dance Academies, or Institutes of Dance, ballet or Tango; also for Pilates Studios and for dance classes in general, it is highly recommended.

Fitness Workout for Seniors consists of an innovative, easy to do way to train adults who have bone and joint degeneration or limitations, as well as dysfunctions of the motor system, such as Parkinson, for example.. The Course reviews not only Parkinson, but also osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and is based on research involving some aerobic and resistance training. The Course also explains how to reduce load excessive efforts, increase strength, mobility and bone density. Exercises include: abdominal strengthener; arm puller, posture toner, upper-back strengthener, inner-thigh toner, hamstring stretching and strengthener, outer-thigh strengthener and quadriceps stretching and strengthener. Teaching also includes cues on how to integrate strength and flexibility into innovative workout routines.

PILATES TAMARA DI TELLA TANGOThe Tamara Di Tella Schools of Training present a complete and comprehensive overview of a medicine-oriented training program that incorporates exercises and drills that can be performed individually or with a partner and are suitable for both group classes and VIP or one-to-one classes.

The Course is held at a hospital and features a hands-on training session with patients that demonstrate body alignment, movement pattern, exercise progression and cuing techniques for each exercise.
